We began breeding and training Labradors in 1984 with the purchase of a lovely yellow female from the kennel of Don and Virginia Campbell of Campbellcroft kennels. We fell in love with the dual purpose Labrador that had the true look and temperament of the English Labrador with the natural desire and drive to hunt.
Ted is the great grandson of William Kent who founded the town of Kentfield, California in the late 1800’s. This name seemed the natural choice of a kennel name for us. Ted's family are avid conservationists, philanthropists, and hunters. The Labrador has always been a solid part of the Kent family for generations.
Our dogs and puppies have grown to become great family pets, hunting dogs, competition dogs and Service dogs. We have a firm commitment to working with several nonprofit foundations, including North Star Foundation in Connecticut and SOS Health Care in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. These foundations work with children diagnosed with autism. Many of our dogs are placed in their training program to become a service dog and friend to these children in need.
We only breed a few litters a year. The emphasis we have on breeding puppies is to always improve on the last litter. Our puppies are born here in our home where they remain for the first few weeks before being moved to the "Puppy Room". They receive lots of handling and socialization from our family and friends, our boys and their friends (the girlfriends just love the puppies!) and most of all, the two of us.
